Today is the first ever Mental Health Nurses’ Day
Many people have been cared for by a Mental Health Nurse at some point in our lives and we want to say thank you for all their support and dedication on this special day.
Thank you..
We know it’s not always easy to find a way to talk about mental health issues, but today it’s Time to Talk Day, when we all need to get talking and find ways to tackle mental health issues.
There are lots of tips on the Time to Talk Day website, such as asking open questions in a non-judgemental way, and finding the right time and place to talk, and listen.
Valley View is holding a Recruitment Open Day tomorrow Thursday January 31st.
This is your chance to change career – change job – make a difference in your work.
We provide care to adults with profound learning and physical disabilities and sensory impairment.
We are interested in talking to committed and compassionate individuals who want to make a difference through doing their job.
Why not pop in for coffee, tea and biscuits and talk to us about the full and part-time roles we have available.

The first Sports Hall steels are now going up at our development site for Oakwood Community School.
The guys have been really busy and now we have a forest of steel emerging and you can see the framework of the Sports facility.
These are exciting times for the school, as the move to the new site and what will be fantastic facilities has been a long time in the making.
It’s really great to see things taking shape.

When Sadie became a Registered General Nurse some 20 years ago – little did she realise that eventually she would become Manager of The Valleys and take responsibility for the delivery of Nursing and Personal Care to over 70 people under one roof!
Sadie joined United Health in May 2018 and it soon became obvious that she was not only committed to her job but also that she wanted to progress and develop in her career caring for others.
She started as Deputy Manager for our sister home in Lincoln – Bunkers Hill Care Home and then in October of last year was promoted to be in charge at The Valleys.
Seeing her grow in to her new roles has been rewarding and The Valleys are very pleased she has decided to take on the responsibility of leading the team at the home.
Well yesterday a justifiably proud Sadie was able to exhibit official recognition of her achievements and display her Registered Manager’s Certificate from CQC in the home. This was the culmination not only of a lot of hard work but also continuous commitment, on her part, to ensuring the delivery of excellent care at The Valleys.
However for Sadie it does not stop there. She looks forward to developing in her role as Manager and is determined to bring a lot of energy and innovative ideas to her position so that The Valleys starts a new era delivering even better care than before.
Everyone wishes Sadie well over the coming year, and looks forward to great things happening at The Valleys.
Sounds simple, but sometimes it is more difficult than we think….particularly if the person we want to communicate with is living with Dementia.
On our Facebook page there is a great video which gives some good advice on how to approach one common problem you may have with a loved one in care. Why not check it out today to see if it can help you.
If you need any advice about Dementia then please don’t hesitate to call either of our homes on the numbers given here.
We hope you find the video useful.

Each January 1st lots of people make New Year resolutions. Many fall by the wayside by the end of the month…but that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t keep trying.
Ours is a simple resolution…to strive as hard as we can to offer great care across our homes, be they concerned with elderly care, learning disability, mental health or children’s services. To make sure we don’t give up on ours we regularly review our staff teams to make sure they have all the skills they need, and if they need improving then we will put the appropriate training in place.
We hope that our efforts will bear fruit throughout the year.
If you have any resolutions that you would like to share, and stories of how you mean to stick to them then please let us know – we will post the best ideas.
In the meantime – have a great Near Year and stay resolved!!
As we bid farewell to 2018 and welcome in 2019, we want to take time to wish all our residents, staff, relatives, friends, neighbours and colleagues a very Happy New Year.
We hope that it will be a good year for you all, and that you are able to keep all the resolutions you have made!
We hope you enjoyed our posts over the Christmas period, and one of our resolutions for 2019 is to make sure we keep you entertained with some exciting posts and news throughout the coming year.
If from reading our page over the last year you have any suggestions as to how we can improve our content then please do send us your suggestions. We already have some ideas of our own….but it would be great to get some form our readers.
We look forward to hearing from you in 2019!
At our Bunkers Hill care home we like to give a shout out whenever one of our staff members achieves something through their hard work.
So it is we say congratulations to one of our carers Sammy Nash, who has just been awarded her Intermediate Level Apprenticeship in Social Care.
Sammy is delighted and really proud of her achievement, and so she should be. Her commitment and dedication in working to complete this qualification have been exemplary.
Bunkers Hill will always support its staff to gain qualifications and progress in their careers – good training is behind all the quality care we deliver. In Sammy’s case the help and assistance was delivered by Jess form Connect 2 Care – she worked with Sammy every step of the way – so thank you Jess.
Here’s to the next step Sammy and well done from everyone at United Health!
The hot weather is certainly taking its toll on our construction crew at our Oakwood Community School Development site.
As you can see one essential member of the team, Carson, has become so soporific he will take a nap anywhere.
The problem is he doesn’t always choose the best places – so here are a couple of pictures of him covered in sawdust and underneath a ladder.
Not that he seems to mind much – he always turns up for work the next day…..no matter what the temperature!
